Science Quest 2018: And the winners are...

Science Quest 2018, sponsored by MCB

Collège du Saint Esprit, Dr Maurice Cure SSS and Royal College of Curepipe are the grand winners of Science Quest 2018, organised jointly by the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre (RGSC) and MCB. This competition aims at promoting science, technology and innovation among secondary school students.

Enthusiastic participation
600 students took part in the 2018 Science Quest competition. The participating teams reaching the finals had the opportunity to display innovation and creativity to use science in order to find solutions to problems at their schools or in their neighbourhood.

This year’s winners are:
  • College du Saint Esprit won the trophy in the category for Grades 12 and 13 with their “Student Assistant App” project. The winning team got a Rs.20, 000 cash prize.
  • Dr Maurice Cure SSS won the trophy awarded to Grades 10 and 11 colleges, thus scooping a cash prize of Rs.20, 000. Their project was entitled: « Manufacture of bio detergent ».
  • Students from Royal College Curepipe won the first prize in the Grades 7, 8 and 9 category with their project entitled “Blind people walking aid”. The team also got a Rs.20, 000 cash prize.
Teams ranked 2nd and 3rd also earned cash prizes of Rs.15,000 and Rs.10,000 respectively, whereas 4th and 5th schools got a Rs.4,000 prize for their efforts. All prizes were sponsored by MCB.

Live science show
This year’s edition also welcomed a renowned science show professional, Dr Graham Walker, Senior Lecturer and Programme officer for Science Circus Africa, from the Australia National University, to perform a spectacular science show for the participants of Science Quest. The show was conducted live in front of the young audience during the prize giving ceremony with the aim of arousing its curiosity and triggering its interest for science.
